Overview

About this journey

South Africa's Western Cape is a paradise for food and wine lovers, and this carefully curated 6-day journey immerses you in the very best of it. Begin in Cape Town with a full day exploring the city's vibrant culinary scene — from the Neighbourgoods Market in Woodstock to the finest restaurants in the city centre. Then venture into the Cape Winelands, where 300 years of winemaking heritage have produced some of the world's most acclaimed wines. In Stellenbosch, stroll oak-lined avenues between Cape Dutch estates, tasting elegant Bordeaux-style red blends and refreshing chenin blancs at historic cellars. Franschhoek, the self-proclaimed gourmet capital of South Africa, delivers extraordinary culinary experiences: multi-course tasting menus paired with estate wines, artisan chocolate and nougat, and the famous Franschhoek Wine Tram that meanders between vineyards and cellars with wonderful views. From the Winelands, the route descends to the coast at Hermanus, where between July and November, southern right whales calve in Walker Bay, providing some of the world's best land-based whale watching. Even outside whale season, Hermanus offers spectacular coastal scenery, excellent local restaurants, and a thriving art community. This tour is perfect for honeymooners, anniversary celebrations, or any couple seeking a romantic and indulgent escape in one of the world's most beautiful wine regions.

Cross the scenic Helshoogte Pass to Franschhoek, a picturesque valley originally settled by French Huguenots in the 17th century. Board the famous Franschhoek Wine Tram, which meanders through the vineyards, hopping between cellar doors for tastings of pinotage, chardonnay, and MCC (methode cap classique sparkling wine). Stop at an artisan chocolatier for a wine-and-chocolate pairing that reveals how flavour profiles complement each other. A multi-course tasting menu lunch at one of Franschhoek's celebrated restaurants is the gastronomic highlight of the trip. The afternoon is free to explore the village's excellent galleries, boutiques, and craft shops.

After a leisurely breakfast, drive south over the Franschhoek Pass and through the scenic Overberg region to the coastal town of Hermanus. Stop at a family-run farm stall for artisan cheeses, olives, and preserves — the Overberg is known for its agricultural heritage. Arrive in Hermanus and check into your clifftop boutique hotel with dramatic ocean views. Walk the famous cliff path — between July and November, southern right whales breach, tail-slap, and nurse their calves in the bay below. Even outside whale season, the coastal scenery is spectacular. Dinner at a renowned seafood restaurant overlooking Walker Bay completes the day.
